As the Head Camp Coordinator, I have to say I am biased!!! However, I feel so blessed and grateful to be a part of something that brings so much acceptance, compassion and “joy” to so many!!!

ASK has been such an important part in our lives, allowing my son to have a wonderful time in a perfect environment and allowing me as a parent to have time to keep doing my thing when school is out, with peace of mind. The dedication of all the staff involved is amazing.

Dear ASK Summer Camp Organizers, I am writing to thank you and your excellent team for the fantastic Camp experience that both of my Children had this year. My Son, (12) as a “camper” and my Daughter (15) as a camper/volunteer. It was their best experience so far of a “Summer Camp”. My Son who has anxiety issues, came home happy and laughing each day, eager to go back and get involved, he loved having different “buddies” and was very happy to make new friends. He really wants to go again next year, as a parent is was such a relief to know that both of my Children (for different reasons) were so energized and positive about their experience with you. My Daughter, hopes to be a teacher and she is enjoying her experience so much that she asked to volunteer for an extra week, normally I have difficulty getting her out of bed before 10.00 am when she is on vacation so this action alone speaks volumes for your program ;-).

Making and playing with friends are two things that children do naturally and are skills that we ordinarily take for granted. Yet for many children with special needs and related learning differences, these two aspects of childhood do not come easily. The effects of specific learning differences may, in fact, preclude children from interacting appropriately with their peers. They are challenged to acquire the “unspoken” rules of social behavior and poor self-esteem, low frustration tolerance and problems with anger and/or aggression are a constant source of concern for parents and teachers.

ASK Bilingual Camp is an inclusive summer programme, dedicated to offering a special haven for children and young adults aged 5-24 who have Learning Differences and Special Educational Needs. The fully integrated programme allows children to develop their social skills, creativity and learning through fun games and activities, which are structured according to age and their skill level. Our highly qualified staff include psychologists, experienced specialist teachers, counselors, speech therapists, ABA therapists, art therapist, music therapist and a nurse.

ASK Bi-lingual Summer Day Camp – where Creativity and Learning go hand in hand

Our unique programme offer:

  • 1:1 camper to staff ratio
  • social skills activities which allow self-discovery and build self-confidence
  • social communication skills development through role play
  • arts exploration and self-expression through different mediums to encourage imagination and creativity
  • sensory play to enhances learning through hands-on activities that stimulate the child’s senses
  • drama and music with a weekly group performance
  • multi-sensory games which encourage team building, group interaction and learn conflict resolution
  • weekly outings to explore nature and local culture
  • using games and activities to make learning fun and improve literacy and numeracy skills for children having difficulties at school

Social Communication Skills

This programme teaches children the fundamental social communication skills, using social stories and role play to learn sharing, cooperation, conflict resolution through team building exercises. Improving social communication skills will lead to children learning to understand each other’s differences and to learn self-acceptance, which in turn instill empathy in each child and build life-long self-confidence. The nurturing camp environment encourages the children to have positive peer interactions, which develops self-discovery and a sense of social accomplishment. Multi-sensory tools and different art mediums are used to allow children to unleash their creativity and self-expression to discover a sense of self and to further develop their self-confidence.

Learning and Improving Literacy Skills

Statistics prove that it is imperative that children with learning differences keep reading during the summer months to avoid the so-called ‘summer brain drain’ phenomenon. At ASK summer camp, children will have ‘thematic’ books and activities to share and enjoy. They might read with support, by themselves or read to others as appropriate, but the goal is to make reading and learning fun. They will be encouraged to share ideas about each week’s focus theme, and to strengthen their language and literacy skills through upbeat interactions with their buddies and group mates. There will also be opportunities to produce graphics and written reactions to the themes at their individual level of learning development. Learning activities will be designed to encourage the campers to have fun with the themes and be celebrated/acknowledged for their participation and effort.

By special request for children having learning difficulties at school, we can also offer one to one tutoring in a specific area, such as literacy or numeracy, to allow them to consolidate what they have learned during the school year, and help them feel more confident in the next school year. This offer is limited to staff availability and at an additional cost. Parents must provide school and other reports one month in advance, allowing the tutor time to prepare based on the needs of the child. The one on one tutoring sessions focused on building added confidence for a child based on a sense of better understanding and mastery in a skill area. Please inquire via email if this service is available during the week or weeks you wish to enroll your child in the summer camp.
